Cách dùng
Dùng 'in' cho không gian kín, bao quanh, hoặc khu vực địa lý lớn (thành phố, quốc gia)
The keys are in the drawer.
Chùm chìa khóa ở trong ngăn kéo.
Mai studies in Can Tho.
Mai học tập ở Cần Thơ.
Dùng 'on' cho bề mặt tiếp xúc hoặc số tầng nhà
There is a poster on the wall.

So sánh
'in, on, at' vừa chỉ nơi chốn vừa chỉ thời gian. Nơi chốn: in (không gian kín/khu vực), on (bề mặt), at (điểm xác định). Thời gian: in (tháng/năm/mùa), on (thứ/ngày cụ thể), at (giờ giấc cụ thể).
Giới từ chỉ nơi chốn (in, on, at) mô tả vị trí đứng yên. Giới từ chỉ phương hướng/chuyển động (to, into, onto) mô tả hành động đang di chuyển về phía nào đó.
